This place is awesome!

This place is awesome! We live right up the street and have never been. On a whim we stopped over on a Saturday night, scored some seats at the bar and had a great date night. The service and food here is excellent. Can't wait to return!

Their outdoor patio is romantic at night.

The staff were very attentive to our requests. The lasagna and vodka penne with shrimp are our go to. We tried the tiramisu this time and were surprised it tasted as good as we had in Naples. We took a blood orange sorbet for the road. Their outdoor patio is romantic at night.

A great Italian recipe with its Superior menu

A great Italian recipe with its Superior menu. Many of the menu items are unique and those that are not are clearly above the average Italian restaurant. Prices were fair and services excellent with good ambience.

This restaurant was fantastic.

This restaurant was fantastic. the food was absolutely fantastic. This is probably one of the best cannolis I've ever had and the tiramisu definitely in the top five. Definitely recommend the risotto with filet and shrimp the sauce was extremely good. The service was very good also if I could say one thing it should be a tad bit brighter in the restaurant but very nice and romantic

Great local restaurant

Firenze food is delicious and has great service! Ask for Michelle, she’s a rockstar! My friends and I enjoyed our dinner without feeling rushed. Michelle even helped pick a delicious dessert for us because we had a hard time deciding. Love the outdoor seating, but if you want to sit indoor, they have that as well. Definitely recommend.

Favorite Italian restaurant in San Diego County!

I brought my wife and son here last night to celebrate my wife's birthday and had a phenomenal meal! Jeanette was our waitress and was extremely nice and helped us with explanations and recommendations. Firenze Trattoria is probably my favorite Italian restaurant in San Diego County!

I am already looking forward to my next visit.

Located on the Olivenhain side of the Encinitas and Rancho Santa Fe border my family and I have been coming to Firenze Trattoria for many years because we live in RSF and FT always has consistently good food and great service. For this most recent visit I was in town for the Christmas holiday and we chose FT as our final family dinner. Inside is very large with many different seating options and a large bar. It is located in a sleepy shopping center so there is always plenty of easy parking. Our server Bill was fantastic and really added to the meal. All of our dishes arrived shortly after ordering and the portion sizes are generous.

For this most recent visit I started off with the Carpaccio di Manzo and thought it was wonderful. I have been ordering this dish since I was a kid and this version was one of the better ones I have had in a few months. For my entree I chose the Seabass Oreganato and loved it. The Seabass was large and flavorful but the baked bread crumbs on top really made the dish for me and was a unique variant. I would highly recommend both to anyone.

Overall a really nice Italian option in a beautiful part of San Diego and I am already looking forward to my next visit.

Billy the Bartender

I'd like to give Billy a 10 out of 5 star review. He was very friendly, entertaining and most importantly had my daughter and I coming back 5 days out of 8 that I was recently in Encinitas visiting my sister.
His cocktails were excellent and he was very engaging. The bar should be full every night!
Thanks Billy!

The food is really good

We went there for lunch on a weekday. The patio is so nice, with the fountain. The service was excellent! So friendly. The food is really good, very homemade feeling. Prices are reasonable. This place is a good option for a date or lunch.

Hidden Gem

I have been fortunate enough to have enjoyed this fine Italian restaurant for many years now with a dear friend of mine. Its off the beaten path location is a plus with ample parking and a serene setting both inside and out. All the entrees and appetizers I have tried have been wonderful and very generous in size. The wait staff and helpers have all been very helpful and courteous. The young lady we had serving us last evening 9/3 was very patient and knowledgeable. She recited the specials menu with not one hesitation, and let me tell you that was a long detailed list! We will be a longtime customer of this fine authentic Italian restaurant.

Stag's Leap Pairing Dinner

Excellent dinner! There were 2 couples in our party and 2 individuals had dietary restrictions. The chef was able to prepare great alternatives without hesitation. The staff was wonderful and very efficient. The wine pairing was terrific. My only recommendation - provide the ability to "mix and match" wines when purchasing at the end of the evening. We wanted to order several bottle of each wine presented but could only order full cases of each wine. Otherwise, everything was terrific and we look forward to the next pairing dinner.

“Great service, excellent food, plenty of options!”

Every time I come to Firenze Trattoria I thoroughly enjoy my experience. Everything seems to be thought out and in place. The food is amazing as well! Their menu has a lot of classic Italian dishes with some new variations, and the specials list is always a treat. I really like how they offer gluten-free pasta for their dishes (it seems to be a 'must' in North County these days). The service is always lovely as well. I highly recommend sitting on their patio in the daytime for lunch or a warm evening. The best part is the little mints at the hostess desk when you leave too! 🙂

“Excellent food and service”

Four of us really enjoyed our meals here. I got a veal dish and my husband got osso bucco which was the special of the evening. Also, someone at our table ordered the lasagna which he said was delicious. The bread basket was very good and included bread sticks. We enjoyed the desserts and our server was outstanding. We ate outside on the patio. Definitely a place where we would go back.

“Great Experience!”

This is a popular restaurant on Friday and Saturday nights so it is good to make reservations. We made them but still had to wait because the people at our table were lingering over coffee. The staff was great and continually updated us. Once we were seated, our waiter was wonderful, very helpful and pleasant. I ordered the Butternut Squash Ravioli and it was excellent! My boyfriend ordered Pasta Rustica and thoroughly enjoyed it. This restaurant is located in a small shopping center with plenty of parking. The tables are close together and the foursome next to us were quite loud. You may not want to have an intimate conversation here. However, it's a lively and fun place and we look forward to returning.

“great happy hour”

Finally went with the flow and started happy hour and when Barry does it, he does it right.....choice of any drink and small bar portions (his usual portions are large enough to share) so going there for happy hour a bargain and includes Saturday night.

When in Rome.....

I get to the San Diego area about once a year on business and always make it a point to dine here. Lunch on the patio on a beautiful day is a relaxing treat. Calamari is the best!

 by Dave

I am a retired businessman. When I had my company, I demanded excellence from my business, employees, and especially myself. This is why Firenze is my favorite restaurant. Excellent service, fantastic quality, wonderful atmosphere. Great place to relax and enjoy a meal and take as much time as needed, never feeling rushed. The staff remembers me each time I go there. Firenze never disappoints!

Experience at Firenze

On a recent trip to San Diego, my husband and I wanted good Italian food. We googled for Italian restaurant in Encinitas as this was where we were and found Firenze. Being New Yorkers, we did not expect much, but we were really amazed at the delicious food, great wine, friendly and efficient service and warm atmosphere. It was a great dining experience and we would recommend it highly to anyone living in the area or passing though San Diego. It is a gem.

“A Gem in Encinitas”

This is the perfect night out. Elegant but comfortable, intimate but not stuffy. Dining on their large patio with a beautiful fountain is very enjoyable, but so is the dining inside. The lighting is warm and not too bright. The service is great, and the food is delicious, with larger portions that one might expect. I love the menu; a great selection and variety, and the only downside is that you'll have difficulty deciding what to order.

Firenze has been one of my favorites for many years, and I think it will be one of yours, too.

“Wonderful”

If you are looking for a wonderful restaurant to enjoy authentic Italian cuisine and great service in Encinitas, look no further. My husband and I went to Firenze and sat outside in their patio, it was beautiful with a large fountain and soft lighting. We shared an appetizer of Calamari, it was cooked to perfection. I had the special, a house made ravioli, stuffed with spinach and artichoke it was delicious. My husband had lasagna, the best! Our server was very kind and helpful with the menu. We will definitely return.

Comfortable setting, excellect dishes, friendly service.

Comfortable setting, excellect dishes, friendly service. They mix to create a restaurant that we choose several times a month.

Consistently Great

I've dinned at Firenze Trattoria a number of times now, and my overall experience has been consistently great. I eat a gluten-free diet, so eating at an Italian restaurant is rarely my first choice. I find that the folks at Firenze are alway eager to accommodate my dietary idiosyncrasies, and any pasta dish on the menu can easily be substituted with a gluten-free pasta alternative, and still be just as delicious. The outdoor seating area is beautiful and enjoyable.

Just Desserts

Was a perfect dessert choice for a Sunday evening Birthday.

The Blood Orange sherbet was amazing as was the chocolate coated gelato and sherbet dessert!

Magnificent!

OH MY GOSH! After searching through tons of Italian restaurants, I finally chose this one for it's outside courtyard dining opportunity. I COULD NOT HAVE BEEN HAPPIER! This restaurant is unbelieveable. The wine list was extensive and amazing, and appropriately priced, and the food is just TO DIE FOR! It was sooo good, that my date and I went back the next night, we didn't get enough the first night. If you go, ask for the courtyard, and shoot for a Sunday night, a little later in the evening. We were completely alone and it couldn't have been more romantic. I should have proposed! (FYI-Try the Risotto Fantastico, it's MAGNIFICENT!)

Better Than Average Food

Our birthday celebration was wonderful. Osso bucco, chicken Vesuvio and a couple of raviolis were to write home about- large portions that everyone enjoyed. Really well-made dinners and very good service. Good timing on the courses, attentive yet unobtrusive wait staff. We ate outside, which I think is really nice. It was not noisy outside, and not all that crowded on the Friday night we visited. Everyone enjoyed the dinner. Not sure why Firenze has some hit n miss reviews for service etc. Perhaps there were training issues. We recommend for celebrations or other (not inexpensive) meal. It looked like the bar was very popular.

Just Too Good!

Not only a locals favorite, it is one of north county best.easy parking. Eat at the bar and take I throtle action. Priced lower than you would think.

Consistently Impeccable

We love this restaurant! It's close to home and is a real gem! As we entered we were greeted with a "Happy Anniversary" and after we settled into our cozy table our gracious server also wished us "Happy Anniversary". The food is consistently delicious and the service is impeccable!

The best Italian food I've had in San Diego

The best Italian food I've had in San Diego and possibly anywhere. I took my wife there recently for her birthday and we were amazed at how good everything was. I only read a couple reviews about this place online and decided to try it. The spinach caeser salad was terrific. We both had pasta dishes and practically licked our plates. We were given the tiramisu on the house for her birthday and even that was the best I've ever had. The meal was excellent across the board. The ambiance is very nice and our server was great. I don't write many reviews but this one was well deserved.

I can't possibly imagine a bad review on this place. It's not the cheapest place in the world but it's worth every penny and then some. I can't wait to go back.

Wonderful Service

They made my sea food pasta dish just the way I liked it and my wife's shrimp salade was great also. Definitely coming back and this time I'll leave some space for desert. Wonderful service.

Great Food & Ambiance

Great food and ambiance for a romantic dinner. This is the best Italian restaurant I've been to in San Diego. Fair prices and an amazing wine list. Definitely recommended!

The Service was as Great as the Food!

I received a $50 gift certificate for this restaurant from a friend 7 YEARS AGO! I had forgotten about it and my wife came across it while cleaning out a drawer. We mad a reservation for lunch this past Thursday. The service was great as was the food. It was a beautiful day so we sat out on the patio. The whole experience was worth the drive from Santee.

I Love This Place!

I love this place. Perfect for lunch and dinner! I've been going here for years and can say that the owner puts a lot of thought into changing up the decor to meet the times. Service has always been right on and friendly. Sit out on the patio for lunch or on a nice night, it's beautiful and quiet out there, I especially like the fountain.

The best part of this place is of course the food. I've never been disappointed here. What makes Firenze my go-to Italian restaurant(other than all the other awesome contributing factors) is the fact that they offer gluten-free pasta. I mean seriously, how great is that?! I normally despise going out for Italian because it's always pasta and other great things I can't eat, well Firenze got the message and, yet again, are keeping up with the times. They also have really amazing daily specials that almost always include some type of fresh fish.

If you want great service, even greater food, and innovation for a timely Italian tradition, then Firenze is the place to go. I highly recommend it.

Great Selection!

Great selection. Great food. Great service. Will definitely be returning often.

I loved the variety on the menu. There were many salads, pastas and other entrees to choose from so you can really venture out and try new things.

My husband had the pasta with vodka sauce (their most popular dish) and he LOVED it. I tried the halibut cheeks (a special) and was very, very impressed with it. The vegetable soup was also excellent.

They offer brown rice pasta - yay!

Nice patio seating. The quiet atmosphere both inside and outside would make a great spot for a date, but is equally pleasant to casually meet up with friends and family.

Perfect For A Nice Night Out!

My boyfriend and I recently went to Firenze Trattoria for dinner on a Saturday night and I was impressed! We had spent a good portion of the afternoon researching nice restaurants in the area and ended up deciding on this one based on reviews and convenient location.

From the moment we arrived, we were impressed (including by the water fountain feature at the end of the entrance hall). Since we arrived early, we sat in the bar to wait for our table. The bartender was friendly and chatted about Pac-10 football (I'm UW, boyfriend is OSU and bartender was UA). The pineapple martini I had was delicious but very strong (not necessarily a negative except that I'm very much a lightweight).

We were promptly seated at our reservation time and we began to peruse the menu. I'm admittedly a picky eater and the waitress was great at accommodating my questions and requests. We decided to forgo the antipastis as I couldn't guarantee that my taste buds could handle the fanciness and instead moved onto soups and salads. I stuck with the traditional caesar salad, which I thought was superbly done with the perfect amount of dressing. Too many places skimp on their dressing but here it was balanced to add flavor without making the lettuce limp. My boyfriend had the shrimp bisque and I surprised myself by taking a risk and trying it (I think my pineapple martini added some bravery to my dinner) and it tasted great. I admit that I don't have anything to compare it too since I've never had shrimp or a bisque before but I give it a pass!

For our main course, I opted for the Salmone alla Griglia as I had been wanting some salmon for awhile. It was a great choice as the salmon was cooked perfectly and was accompanied by a lemon for added flavor. The pasta on the side was also a delight. I loved their house mixture of red and white sauce! My boyfriend had the lobster ravioli, which I didn't try, but he thought was good.

Dessert was a highlight for me. I picked out the raspberry sorbet in a dark chocolate shell and it was a little piece of heaven.

Overall, great food and a great atmosphere that 's perfect for a nice night out!

Dinner at Dusk!

dinner at dusk on the courtyard is the only way to do it. the pinot noir is so good id crawl through broken glass to drink it. the service is exceptional and have always been extremely satisfied here. this time i nibbled on the bolognese add red sauce as well as the chicken parm with a side of house pasta (red sauce and white sauce together) I wish there were more restaurants that were this good and any restaurant owner should come to a large group dinner here and see how its done.....

Perfect!

The boo and I went here last Valentine's Day and I'm only getting to my review now :/

Anyway, this place is so charming! It's pretty small, but cozy, with the dining room lit with candles. It's pretty dark in here, but nothing compared to how incredulously dark it is in Hollister stores, haha.

The boo and I were seated in a little corner, perfect to have private conversations without others overhearing. Bread was complimentary and since it was Valentine's Day, they had a little special going on. Three course meal for two--2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts. I don't quite remember what the boo ordered, but I decided to go with what I know, and that was lasagna. After finishing off our salads, we casually talked as we waited for our entrees. The waitress was very attentive, despite the crowd. She made sure we were comfortable and that our water was always filled.

When our entrees finally arrived, I was SHOCKED at the size of my lasagna slice! It was a 6in. x 6in. x 6in. block of pure heaven. The best lasagna I had ever had the honor of consuming. It had beef, pork, veal, and possibly every land mammal known to man. The cheese was bountiful, but not overbearing, and it was perfectly layered to a tee. I couldn't finish my slice (although I really wanted to), but was lucky to have been offered to take it home. The dessert was forgettable, literally, because I don't remember what I ordered.

But WOW that lasagna was just pure heaven. Still the best lasagna I have ever had to this day.

Wonderful!

A guy I met at Moonlight Beach took me here when we first met and I was so overwhelmed ... well, we've been dating for over a year now and we come back to this place like once a month. Every time we come back it's better than getting three pairs of new shoes, so Sean makes out okay too. That's probably why he keeps suggesting this place.

I Gotta Give Firenze 5 Stars

I gotta give Firenze a five star, after spending a surprising incredible evening there. I do not typically travel outside of metro San Diego to eat, but made the trip up to Encinitas to meet some friends here.

The food was great, service was excellent, and the outside dining patio was perfect. We took our time and enjoyed a few bottles of wine outside under the stars. We never felt rushed and our server was more accommodating. This place is a little of the radar, but it is worth going of your way to get a different experience.

The Lasagna Is Delicious

Well, it's been about a year that I've been going to Firenze and it's always consistent! Great service, great food and knowledgable staff. The food is always served hot and fresh. The server's know the dinner specials to a tee and make a delightful presentation. The wine list is nice or Meritage can provide a great bottle and the best part is no corkage if you mention Meritage.

The manager, a tall blonde, is always gracious and so very kind it's nice to see her and say "hello". We usually sit on the patio and have a lovely evening every time. She always stops by to check up on everything, which is very much appreciated.

And yes, the lasagne is wonderful!!

This is a really good Italian Restaurant

This is a really good Italian restaurant. The food is perfect. We were seated immediately. The room is large, and you have the option of eating out on the patio. The wine list is extensive, including wines by the bottle and the glass.

Our server was pleasant, prompt and helpful. The entrees we chose are staples on other Italian restaurant menus, but Firenze Trattoria served them with authenticity and aplomb.

Butternut squash ravioli is fresh and inviting with plump pasta squares circled around a cluster of organic baby spinach. Rigatoni al Forno is a baked dish with melted buffalo mozarella atop pasta with homemade sliced sausage, tomatoes, garlic and spices.

Forgive me for noticing, but halfway through my first glass of wine, two blondes came in and sat at the bar. They ordered martinis and flirted with the bartender. Their second round coincided with delivery of a cheese plate (Piatti di Formaggi) and an order of bruschetta. They enjoyed the food, and I enjoyed the view.

delicious dinner

My husband (then fiance) and I took my mom there as a "present" for our wedding. We wanted to give her something meaningful instead of a piece of jewelry. A night out with us is what we gave her.

I researched restaurants and this came up as being an excellent choice (this was prior to my knowing about yelp).

We drove up to Encinitas for our delicious dinner. When we arrived we were promptly greeted and sat. We had thought we were going to have to wait, but thankfully we didn't. We sat and ordered a bottle of wine and some apps. We got the polenta and mushrooms and the sauteed calamari. My husband and I split the Insalata dell Orto and a pasta dish. My mom got the cioppino. Everything was fantastic. There was TONS of fish and seafood in both the calamari and cioppino dishes. My mom kept raving about how it's the most delicious cioppino she's ever had.

I don't venture up to Encinitas often, but if I was to again, I'd go there for some food.

Excellent !

I cant believe we have lived 1 mile from this place for years and years and havent tried it - but so glad we finally did. What a great restaurant. We started with martinis and soups (yummy butternut squash) which were fabulous. Then I had the stuffed eggplant, my husband had some seafood mushroom risotto. They were both fantastic, and huge. Their wine selection was great by the bottle and good by glass. The service was fantastic and fast. I overheard other tables raving about the lasagne and some sauteed calamari dish that we will try next time. My only suggestion, if you start with soup or salad, share an entre.

The food is delicious

I was looking for a nice romantic place to celebrate during our weekend n the area and ran across Firenze while perusing the reviews. The menu looked amazing, the reviews said it was amazing, my only reservation about making reservations was the fact that it is located in a shopping center. Normally I don't associate fine dining with shopping, but you never know. So I made the reservation and headed over to Firenze Saturday Night.

There are no exaggerations. The food is delicious, the service is attentive and the prices are moderate.

We ordered the Polenta Fungi e Gorgonzola as a starter. The Polenta had a great garlic/cheese taste and aroma which was nicely balanced by the rustic mushrooms, it was fabulous. Then the butternut squash soup - amazing. My taste buds were doing a little leaps with glee they were so exited there was more food to come. I ordered the Mushroom Ravioli for my main dish and the Boy Friend ordered eggplant Parmigiana rolls stuffed with ricotta and pine nuts. No complaints on either, and we were so full and satisfied that there was no room for dessert. I will definitely go back when in the area.

 by Jim G.
Like everyone has said, it's amazing.

Like everyone has said, it's amazing. Wendy nailed it on the lasagna! My wife won't get anything else and I have to sneak some from her when she isn't looking. Service is wonderful, the wine list is great, and the wait staff know their wines!

Here is a secret tip! For great wine, go to Meritage Wine Market at the other end of the shopping center. Mention to the staff you're going to Firenze and would like a nice wine. They will help you pick out an amazing wine in your price range (anything from $20 to over $500) and here's the best part: if you bought the wine at Meritage they won't charge you a corkage fee at Firenze! I don't know of any place that will waive a corkage fee around here.

If you're in San Diego, you owe it to yourself to try Firenze.

 by Wendy T.
Their lasagna is the best!

I've been to numerous Italian restaurants where the waiter tells me, "Our lasagna is the best!" This time, they didn't lie.

Firenze not only has an incredibly charming decor, but the most amazing lasagna you will ever have. The lasagna itself is light, with veal, chicken, beef and mushrooms. It comes in an excellent bechamel sauce surrounded in a red sauce - great when you mix the two together. Everything was perfected cooked and delicious. You can't go wrong.

They also offer creative specials - my vegetarian friend ordered the eggplant ravioli which was rather tasty as well!
